June 06, 2008

- According to China's First Financial Daily, China Mobile plans to increase its subsidies for TD-SCDMA terminals from 200 RMB (US$28.9; US$1 = 6.9 RMB) to around 1,000 RMB (US$144.3), in a bid to boost subscriber numbers.

- Up until May 30, 2008, China's Ministry of Information Industry (MII) has granted network access licenses for 29 TD-SCMDA terminals manufactured by 19 firms, including 24 mobile phones and five data cards, China's First Financial Daily reported. Terminals include mobile phones manufactured by Datang, Philips, Holey, Huawei, Haier, Hisense, Longcheer, Lenovo, LGK, Motorola, Samsung, TCL, UTstarcom, Panda, Amoi, Xinyoutong, Yulong Coolpad, ZTE and data cards manufactured by Chongyou, Datang, Huawei, Xinyoutong, and ZTE, according to China Tech News.

- According to Sina Tech, China Mobile is set to recruit an additional 60,000 users to participate in social trials for TD-SCMDA services. The recruitment begins on June 5 and ends on July 31. Unlike the first trial, which had 20,000 selected users, participants for the second social trial will be selected randomly, according to the same source.

China Mobile's subscribers in the eight TD-SCDMA cities of Beijing, Shanghai, Tianjin, Shenyang, Guangzhou, Shenzhou, Xiamen and Qinhuangdao who have had access to China Mobile's network for more than one year are eligible to join the test as long as they submit an application through the company's testing portal website, according again to Sina Tech.
